Monitor and Control Compliance with Applicable Maritime Legislation | AUSREP System |
AUSREP System
The AUSREP system is designed to contribute to safety of life at sea in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). Although both systems are inter-related they provide information for vastly different purposes. AUSREP is primarily a ship reporting system which provides a search and rescue function. Participation in AUSREP is mandatory for certain ships but most other commercial ships participate voluntarily.
Reporting Requirements
On departure from an Australian port or on entering the AUSREP area from overseas:
- Masters are to send a Sailing Plan (SP) to RCC Australia and a computerised plot will be maintained of the ship’s position.
- Masters are to make their ships available for polling and notify AMSA by inserting the word "POLL" in the appropriate section of the SAIL PLAN or where polling is unavailable, Masters should send a Position Report (PR) each day at a convenient time nominated by the ship between 2200 UTC and 0800 UTC. The maximum time between any two reports is not to exceed 24 hours.
- If polling is used, the requirement to pass manual position reports is removed and a Final Report (FR) is to be sent on arrival at the destination or on departure from the AUSREP area.
REEFREP System
On 1 December 2004, amendments to introduce a Coastal Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) was declared by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) via resolution MSC.161(78) as a measures to further enhance navigational safety in Torres Strait and the Great Barrier Reef.
